Contraction of Skeletal Muscle by Halothane

Abstract

|
|
Halothane enhanced contractile response of the diaphragm muscle of rats to the phrenic, nerve stimulation and direct muscle stimulation. Halothane induced contractions of frog rectus abdominis muscle. The contractions of the rectus abdominis muscle were more prominent when potassium content of Ringer solution was raised and did not appear when potassium content was lowered. Halothane enhanced the contractile response of the muscle to acetylcholine and decamethonium. Halothane , antagonized the inhibitory effect of tubocurarine on the contractions by acetylcholine.
